Call Us Before You Call The Insurance Company

We highly recommend you wait until we arrive to call the insurance company.  If you use the wrong terminology or say the wrong thing, the insurance company may not be able to properly evaluate your claim. This may result in more delay and damages and possibly even a denied claim.

What Type of Insurance Should Cover My Water Damage?

The most common causes of water damage in East Tennessee are broken pipes or back up from washing machines or sewers.  This type of damage is generally covered by a standard Homeowners' policy.  It is likely that your standard homeowners insurance policy will also pay for damage from rain water coming through a hole in the roof or a window that was caused by a storm or other act of god.

Hidden pipe leaks that cause damage over time are often not covered.  This would typically be considered an issue of the home owner neglecting to keep the house maintained and repaired.  Homeowners insurance usually pays for "sudden" or "unforeseen" accidents.  If unsure of what would or would not be covered, it is always best to review your home insurance policy or check with your insurance agent before any damage occurs.

Homeowners' policies almost never cover damage due to flooding.  If you live in an area prone to flooding from causes such as hurricanes or overflowing rivers or streams, you should look into purchasing flood insurance through the Federal Governments' National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
