Predefined Styles

Predefined styles can be found in the “Format” dropdown box. The default predefined style is “Paragraph”.

Paragraph

This is the default predefined style, and should be used for most text.

Heading 2, Heading 3, and Heading 4

The heading styles are used to group page content into sections. The difference between them is similar to the different levels in an outline:

  • Heading 2
  • Heading 2
    • Heading 3
      • Heading 4
    • Heading 3
  • Heading 2

As such, a Heading 3 should be used only when it is a subheading of the last Heading 2 before it.

Blockquote

The blockquote style is used to distinguish large quotes from the rest of the page’s content.

Basic Formatting

For section headings, predefined styles should be used instead of the basic formatting tools to ensure design consistency across the site. Basic formatting tools should be used not for design, but for conveying information (e.g. italicizing a word in a sentence to emphasize it).

Lists

There are two types of lists: Ordered and unordered. Ordered lists are lists where the order is important, such as directions. Unordered lists are lists where the order is unimportant, such as grocery lists.

Creating a List

To create a new list, place the cursor where you want to create the list, and click the button for the type of list you want to create. For an unordered list, click the  button. For an ordered list, click the  button. Type each item of the list, pressing Enter between each. To move to a new line without moving to the next list item, hold Shift while pressing Enter. When done creating the list, press Enter twice.

Nested Lists

Nested lists are lists where some list items are themselves lists, such as outlines. To change how deeply nested a list item is, select it, and click the  button to nest it one level deeper, or click the  button to nest it one level less deep.

Links

Creating a Link

To make a link to another page, select the text or image to make a link and click the  button. For “Link URL”, enter the URL of the page you want to link to. If you want the link to open in a new window, choose “Open link in a new window” in the “Target” dropdown box. Click “Insert” when done.

Removing a Link

To remove an existing link, click the link, then click the  button.

Special Characters

Many special characters are available by clicking the  button. A pop-up window will appear with several special characters available. Click the desired character to insert it.
